GreenMore helps S Company solve the fishery energy problem

NANJING, China — August 20, 2024 — GreenMore has supplied and commissioned six commercial energy storage systems for a fishery company in Madagascar, where an unreliable grid had repeatedly disrupted cold storage and fish processing. Each unit is rated at 125 kW of power and 215 kWh of capacity, giving the site a combined 1.29 MWh of backup and load-shifting capacity.

The operating problem

Fisheries depend on uninterrupted cold storage: even short outages let temperatures rise, which affects product quality and can lead to rejected loads. The customer also runs processing workshops whose schedules are difficult to recover once interrupted.

"Outages were a recurring operational problem for us," said a representative of the fishery. "Cold-storage temperature was hard to hold, the processing line lost time, and each event took manpower to manage. It affected both product quality and our customers' confidence."

The solution

The six integrated machines combine batteries, power conversion and controls in outdoor-rated enclosures. When the grid fails, the systems switch to backup power to keep cold storage and processing running; they are also scheduled to charge during lower-price periods and discharge during higher-price periods to reduce energy costs.

"Since the systems came online, cold-storage temperature has held steadily and processing has run more continuously," the customer representative said. "Charging on lower-price periods and discharging on higher ones has also reduced our electricity expenses."
