GreenMore's "storage-diesel complementary" microgrid has been successfully implemented in Madagascar, opening a new chapter in clean energy

NANJING, China — September 12, 2025 — GreenMore has shipped a customized storage-diesel microgrid system to Madagascar. The project completed factory commissioning and testing on August 28, 2025 and was dispatched for overseas delivery. The system is designed for sites where grid power is weak or unavailable and diesel generation has been the primary source — a configuration common in parts of Africa, island nations and remote industrial locations.

System configuration

The shipped system integrates:

• GM-LEG250KT grid-forming energy storage inverter (PCS) as the control unit — details on the product page.
• Two 241 kWh liquid-cooled battery cabinets, specified with European-standard certification.
• Diesel generator sets (400 kW + 150 kW dual-unit configuration) for backup and peak support.
• Intelligent paralleling cabinet managing the switch between storage priority and diesel supplementation modes.

The control logic is designed to run the battery as the primary source and bring the diesel online only when storage state-of-charge drops below a set threshold or when load exceeds the battery's output — reducing diesel runtime and fuel cost relative to a diesel-only configuration.

System performance targets

According to GreenMore, the system is designed to meet the following performance targets for the customer's site conditions:

• Transfer time: switch to off-grid (island) mode within approximately 10 seconds of a grid failure, supplying critical loads during the transition.
• Availability: the system is designed for high annual availability, targeting approximately 99.9% under the specified operating and maintenance regime.
• Environmental rating: specified for operation in high-temperature, high-humidity and dusty conditions typical of the deployment region.

"For sites that have been running on diesel alone, a storage-diesel microgrid changes the operating cost structure rather than just replacing one generator with another," said Li Jie, Technical Director of GreenMore. "The battery handles the base and variable load; diesel becomes the backup and peak layer. The engineering work is in sizing that split correctly for the specific load profile — that is what this project was built around."

GreenMore said the shipment includes the hardware and the engineering services around it — site survey input, system design, commissioning support and after-sales service. The company is evaluating similar storage-diesel configurations for other weak-grid and off-grid markets.
